I had a great weekend competing in Rounds 3 and 4 of the Miata Trophy with Hills Motorsport, where I was lucky enough to drive on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.
This was going to be a challenging weekend, as I had only done one day of testing on this circuit with Ed Pead, and was also my first time out in the Mazda MX5 this year. However my main goal was to just keep improving and focus on my lap times. I qualified 25th out of 32, but I knew I had a lot more time to find for the races.
In race 1, I had poor start, which put me almost last, however I gained back a few places on the first lap after getting a good exist out of Maggots and Beckets and I ended up finishing 23rd.
Then for race 2, I had another bad start however I was eager to catch up again, I passed one car round the outside into the club chicane and then on the same lap made a mighty lunge into Luffield to gain me another place. I then set of in pursuit of the main pack, making significant improvements on my lap time and setting my quickest lap time all day.
I thought overall this was a successful weekend and I feel as if in the future I will improve a lot more as my understanding and handling of the car has improved significantly. I hope to compete in more rounds of this championship this season, however it is dependent on the that fact that I have my A-Levels this year.
